Anderson, S.C. – Playing its second game in as many days, Lynn University's fifth-ranked men's soccer team outlasted Anderson by the score of 1-0 on Monday evening. Despite being down two men, the Fighting Knights were able to pull away on a penalty kick by Joe Cundall and four saves from Alessandro Salvatore. Lynn improves to 4-1 overall.
A red card in the 25th minute may have forced LU a man down for the rest of the game, but the Blue & White did not miss a beat, outshooting the Trojans 5-2 in the first half. Plenty of cards were thrown around as the two squads combined for nine in total.
Lynn took advantage of one such mistake in the 48th minute of play. Harald Gracholski took a pass within the box and near instantly was bowled over by the Anderson defense. Cundall stepped to the ball 12-yards shy of goal and buried the shot for just his second career-goal, both of which have been game-winners.
Another red card, this time at 68:27, force LU down two men for the remainder of the contest. The Knights' defense never panicked, though, holding AU to three shots following the foul, of which only one reached the net. Overall, Lynn outshot Anderson 9-8.
The Fighting Knights open up their Sunshine State Conference season this Saturday, September 18, when they travel to Melbourne, Fla., for a 1 p.m. showdown with Florida Tech.
