Two Late Goals Bury Women's Soccer

Miami Shores, Fla. – Lynn University's women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Barry on Wednesday evening.  The Fighting Knights got a goal by Kayley Clay in the first half but surrendered two goals in the final 10 minutes of play.  Lynn drops to 3-2-1 overall and 0-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Barry (5-2-0, 1-0-0 SSC) came out looking for an early score but the Blue & White defense turned away shot after shot while Kelsey Butler racked up the saves.  The sophomore keeper logged seven stops in the first half and nine in total, two shy of her career-high.  The Knights were outshot 18-5 in the first half.

Lynn's big break appeared following a free kick by Alison Ramsey in the 29th minute.  Buc's keeper Mikaela Barboza came streaking out after the ball but missed on the grab and Lauren Vernon was there to tap theloose ball behind her to Clay for the open-netted score.

The Blue & White did a better job through the beginning of the second half containing the Barry attack and had a chance to go up 2-0 but a shot by Scout Stowe on an open net from 40-yards out hit the underside of the crossbar and was cleared.

On the ensuing counter attack, the LU defense missed on a clearance then had to retreat and stop Emma Karp from a break-away attempt.  Unfortunately Karp was fouled inside the box and sent her penalty kick into the right side of the net to tie it up.

Minutes later Barry would go ahead following Karp's 13th goal of the season.  Katie Lamendola hit a cross into the 18-yard box that was misplayed by Lynn.  Melissa Madrid headed the ball over Butler and Karp was there to tap in the pass for the game-winner.

Barry outshot Lynn 29-8 in total with a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks. Barboza stopped four shots.

The Fighting Knights return to action on Saturday, September 25, at 5 p.m. when they travel to Pensacola, Fla., to take on West Florida.  Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.comand selecting the "Game Central" icon.
