Softball Drops Two In Second Day of Eckerd College Invitational

| Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

Clearwater, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team dropped a pair of games in the second day of the Eckerd College Invite at the Eddie Moore Complex.  The Fighting Knights fell to Tampa, 10-1 before dropping a 3-0 decision to No. 22 Flagler.  LU is now 3-12 on the season and 0-3 in the SSC.

Callie Darlin pitched well in the second game, allowing just two earnedruns but the Fighting Knights could not get the bats going.  Carisa Cook had a pair of hits while Megan Mayfield also collected a base hit and drew a walk.  Flagler was also helped by five LU miscues, four of them the throwing variety.

The Blue & White got ahead early in the opener against Tampa with one run on four hits in the first, but they were not able to capitalize in later innings stranding eight runners on base, twice with the bases loaded.  Brittany Gross and Katrina Lavadan led off the game with singles to left and with one out, Callie Darlin singled up the middle to load the bases.  Then Carisa Cook ripped a pitch into left to drive in Gross from third for the first run of the game but Lynn was unable to score any more.

As it has been all season, the Fighting Knights had trouble defensively in the first inning allowing four runs to score.  Tampa would add another in the second to take a 5-1 lead heading into the third where Lynn once again left three runners on.

Tampa threatened in the third but after a leadoff walk, Marianne Johnson came into the game at pitcher and got three consecutive defensive web gems by Jordan Angel, Mandi Brown and Anne Marie Van Casteren to get out of the inning.

LU then went down in order in the fourth and the Spartans answered with five to take the 10-1 lead going into the fifth.  Cook ripped a double off the fence in left, just inches from being a home run with two outs but UT hurler Kari Walsh was able to get out of the inning and receive the win.

The Fighting Knights are back in action for the final day of the Eckerd Tritons Spring Invitational tomorrow when they take on UMASS-Lowell at 9:30 am and SSC rival Nova Southeastern at 12 pm.  Fans can follow the action by logging onto www.LynnFightingKnights.com and clicking on "Game Central."
