BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's softball team dropped a pair of games to Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday afternoon at the McCusker Sports Complex. The Sailfish took the opener 8-2 before winning the second game, 11-5. The Fighting Knights fall to 6-24 while PBA improves to 16-8.
Katrina Lavadan led the Fighting Knights with four base hits and along with Kasey Murrray had two RBIs apiece. Carisa Cook also added three base hits in the twinbill while Anne Marie Van Casteren connected on a double.
The Sailfish got in front of the Knights, 1-0 in the second inning of game one and added four more in the fourth before LU got on the board in their half of the frame. Cook singled to left to start the rally in the fourth and after a single by Murray and a free pass given to Jordan Angel, Marcella Carrozza was also walked, allowing Cook to touch home from third.
PBA got another three runs in the fifth and a Lavadan RBI single in the seventh was all Lynn could get off starting pitcher Christine Donovan.
The bats woke up for Lynn in the second game as the Fighting Knights recorded 11 base knocks. That was not enough; however, as the Sailfish connected for 13. LU had its opportunities but was hurt byleaving ten runners on base.
Lynn took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second as Angel and Lavadan both drove in runs while Callie Darlin also scored on a wild pitch from Lauren Bubeck.
The lead was shortly lived as the Sailfish retook the advantage with three runs in the top of the third but Lynn would tie it back up at five with two in the fifth. Van Casteren led off the inning with a double to right center and was followed by a single by Cook. After Darlin was walked, Murray helped her own cause on the circle with a two-run double down the right field line. Brianna Parker then came into the game and retired the side as Lynn left two runners stranded.
After the long inning, Palm Beach Atlantic scored two in the sixth and fourth in the seventh to take the 11-5 lead to seal the victory.
Lavadan went 3-4 with a run batted in game two while Murray drove in two runs on two base hits. Cook also scored a pair of runs on two hits.
