BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team was edged by Saint Leo University 2-1 Friday afternoon in a Sunshine State Conference matchup at McCusker Sports Complex.  The Fighting Knights fall to 4-16 overall and 0-4 in the SSC while the Lions improve to 12-13 with a 1-0 conference mark.

Callie Darlin pitched well for the Blue & White but received the loss.  The sophomore allowed just two runs on four hits in the complete game while striking out five.  Kristen Kelly was just a bit better in the circle for SLU as she allowed just one run on four hits in seven innings and striking out four.  

Saint Leo got on the board first with a run in the third as Elysha Agen doubled down the right field line. The Lions would also tack on another in the fifth on a pinch hit home run by Katie Gwinn.

Mandi Brown got Lynn in the runs column with an RBI in the sixth to score Megan Mayfield who walked to lead off the inning.  After Mayfield drew the free pass, Brittany Gross sacrificed her over on a bunt and a groundout by Katrina Lavadan advanced Mayfield sixty feet to third.

The Fighting Knights threatened in the seventh as Anne Marie Van Casteren connected on a one-out double to right center and advanced to third on Kasey Murray's groundout but was unable to score.

Gross and Lavadan also had base hits for the Knights while Mayfield reached safely via bases on balls in both of her plate appearances.
