Third-Ranked Women's Tennis Sweeps Eckerd to Open SSC Play

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Lynn University's third-ranked women's tennis team won its ninth straight match, sweeping Sunshine State Conference rival Eckerd, 9-0, to open SSC play Sunday morning.  The Fighting Knights are now 9-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference while the Tritons fall to 1-5 and 0-4 in league play.

Magdalena Ekert had an impressive day as she allowed her opponents to win just one game combined in both No. 1 singles and doubles.  Freshmen Aleksandra Vukadinovic and Roxana Alexandru accomplished the same feat at No. 3 doubles and in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Ekert teamed with Isabell Raich in the first doubles slot sweeping Emmy Laing and Amanda Teets.  In the second position, Jessica Yanoff and Andrea Berkova dominated Telara Buelow and Stephanie Jenks 8-2 while Vukadinovic and Alexandru bested Christine Hammerschmidt and Sonnet Ludwig 8-1.

Raich, Vukadinovic and Alexandru all won 6-0, 6-0 in their singles matches at Nos. 3, 5-6, respectively.  Raich was victorious over Hammerschmidt in the third position while Vukadinovic beat Ali Avery at No. 5 and Alexandru bested Alex Roberts in the sixth slot.

Jenks was no match for Ekert at No. 1 singles as Ekert won 6-1, 6-0.  Ioana Ivan had off at doubles but defeated Amanda Teets 6-2, 6-2 in her first match in the second position.  Berkova was also victorious, beating Sonnet Ludwig, 6-3, 6-0 in the fourth hole.
