Lakeland, Fla. - Lynn University's women's tennis team capped an impressive weekend by sweeping No. 12 Florida Southern, 9-0 in a Sunshine State Conference match Monday afternoon. The Fighting Knights remain undefeated at 10-0 and 2-0 in the SSC while the Moccasins fall to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Blue & White dominated from the get-go, sweeping the doubles matches with Eleonora Iannozzi and Ioana Ivan taking the first flight over No. 19 Sabine Goge and Agnese Rozite 8-3. Forming the sixth-ranked duo in the country, Magdalena Ekert and Isabell Raich had an easy time with Joalis Dominguez and Veronika Kovacikova 8-1 in the second position. Andrea Berkova and Jessica Yanoff did not allow a point to Crystal Copeland and Laura Wichmann.
LU laid out all six of their nationally ranked players in the singles competition. In the first position, Ekert, the 11th ranked player in the NCAA, defeated Rozite, the nation's 28th ranked player, 6-3, 6-1. After going to extra points in the second slot, No. 5 Iannozzi blanked Goge 6-0 in the second set. Yanoff, the third returning senior and ninth-ranked player in the country, breezed past Copeland 6-0, 6-2.
Lynn's three newcomers Ivan, Raich and Berkova were equally as impressive at Nos. 3-4, 6. Ivan, the reigning SSC Player of the Week, took down Kovacikova 6-3, 6-0 while her classmate Berkova defeated Paradis 6-0, 6-2. Raich, a senior transfer from Marshall University, was victorious in the fourth position over Wichmann 6-2, 6-3.
The Fighting Knights will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the weekend. LU will take on No. 7 Hawaii Pacific Sunday followed by NAIA No. 1 Fresno Pacific on Monday and No. 6 Abilene Christian on Tuesday. All three matches will be played at the Darling Tennis Center.
