Altamonte Springs, Fla. - Lynn University's third-ranked women's tennis team opened the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a fury, sweeping the University of Tampa, 5-0, Thursday morning at Sanlando Park. The Fighting Knights improve to 21-1 overall and will take on the winner of Florida Southern/Nova Southeastern in the conference semifinals on Friday, April 15, at 9 am.
Seniors Magdalena Ekert and Isabell Raich won 8-0 in the second slot as the Blue & White took all three doubles matches. The No. 1 and 3 doubles teams of Eleonora Iannozzi/Ioana Ivan and Jessica Yanoff/Andrea Berkova were victorious by identical 8-2 scores.
Iannozzi and Berkova both won their singles matches in the second and sixth positions, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the match. Ekert and Yanoff also were up match-point in their second sets in the first and fifth slots before the match was stopped.
