Box Score 2 Clearwater, Fla.—Lynn University's softball team totaled 18 hits but lost to the Flagler College Saints 8-3 and the Eckerd College Tritons 3-1 in two regional games at the Eckerd Softball Tournament on Friday.
Bianca Savulak and Mandi Brown both contributed four hits each on the day while Lauren Garceau went 3-for-7.
Kasey Murray took the circle for game one versus Flagler and went 3.2 innings giving up only one earned run on just four hits. Missy Montgomery relieved Murray and posted 2.1 innings with one strikeout and no earned runs.
In the third inning of game number one, Lynn threatened as Delaney Brey started off the inning with a single through the left side followed by an Anne Marie Van Casteren single through the right side of the infield. However, the Fighting Knights were unable to plate a run in the frame.
Flagler tallied the first run of the game in the bottom half of the third after a leadoff walk scored on a two out singled down the right field line.
The Knights then found themselves in an even bigger hole in the fourth when Flagler capitalized on a Lynn fielding error with two out by scoring four unearned runs.
Going into the top of the fifth, Lynn was down 5-0. After Van Casteren flied out to center, Garceau earned a walk and advanced to second on a Brown infield hit. Murray then collected an RBI on a single to short as Garceau scored.
Lynn added another run in the sixth on as Marianne Johnson reached on a fielder's choice and Savulak scored after starting the inning with a double to center field. Through five and a half innings, Lynn trailed 5-2.
Flagler answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth; all of which resulted from Lynn errors. Heading into the top of the seventh, The Blue & White trailed 8-2.
Lynn loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but could only add one run on a Savulak single.
Savulak went 3-for-4 on the game with one run and one RBI while Brown totaled a 2-for-3 game. The Knights registered nine hits but stranded 12 runners.
Lynn faced Sunshine State Conference foe Eckerd in the second game of the tournament with Callie Darlin receiving the starting nod.
For the first time on the year, the Blue & White scored first in the bottom of inning number one. Eckerd countered with three runs in the top of the second to go up 3-1.
Van Casteren led off the third inning with a single but could not score. Then in the fifth, the Knights put runners on second and third with two outs but could not find the key hit.
Lynn left nine runners on versus Eckerd but out-hit the Tritons 9-7. Garceau, Vassallo, and Brown all collected two hits with Vassallo earning the lone Lynn RBI.
Darlin collected her first complete game of the season giving up seven hits, walking three and striking out two.
