BOCA RATON, Fla.—With a 2-1 lead after doubles, Lynn University's No. 4 women's tennis team defeated the NAIA No. 3 Embry-Riddle Eagles 5-2 on Sunday in an April Fool's Day contest.
In their 15th win of the season, No. 3 Ioana Ivan and Sabine Krause amassed an 8-6 win for Lynn (15-3) over No. 6 Yi Ching Chen and Josefin Strom at the top doubles flight.
Roxane Alexandru and Ana Kriz teamed up at number two doubles and fell 8-4 to No. 10 Rocio Frej Vitalle and Ekaterina Kamendova.
In the third doubles flight, Andrea Berkova and Kim Przeszlowski rallied to an 8-4 victory over No. 22 Kristina Marova and Paola Montero to give the Blue & White the 2-1 tilt going into singles play.
On the singles courts, No. 3 Ivan composed an efficient 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 6 Chen at the top flight and Przeszlowski defeated former Barry Buccaneer and No. 15, Kamendova, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at singles number three.
The only Lynn singles loss came in the second flight where No. 40 Krause fell to No. 10 Vitalle 6-2, 6-3. LU's number four singles player, No. 18 Berkova, collected a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 29 Marova to seal the match for the Fighting Knights.
Both Kriz and Alexandru's matches were unfinished with Kriz grabbing the first set 6-2 and up 3-2 in the second set over No. 43 Strom. Alexandru was down 2-3 in set one before the match was completed.
The final regular season match for Lynn will take place on April 3, at 6:00 p.m. versus the Nova Southeastern Sharks at the Perper Tennis Complex. Fans can follow the action live on Twitter @LUKnights #LUWT.
