BOCA RATON, Fla.— Lynn University's softball team could not overcomea four-run first inning by the Nova Southeastern University Sharks and fell in the final game of the Sunshine State Conference series 10-0 on Saturday.
Christina Carvatta and Bianca Savulak registered the only two hits for Lynn (2-29, 1-17 SSC) as the Sharks scored six unearned runs in the game.
The Sharks tallied four unearned runs in the first inning from two Lynn errors and two hits. Nova then added two more in the second and another unearned run in the third to make it a 7-0 game after three innings.
Marianne Johnson broke Sara DeMuth's perfect game in the third with a two-out walk followed by Carvatta breaking the no-hitter on a two-out slap single. DeMuth then walked Savulak to load the bases for Lauren Garceau. Garceau then worked a six pitch at bat that ended in a strikeout to end the inning.
Lynn starting pitcher, Missy Montgomery, worked two no-hit innings in the fourth and fifth before the Sharks put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth to claim a 10-0 advantage.
Montgomery went the complete game of six innings. The freshman gave up eight hits with four earned runs out of the 10 total runs. The Lynn defense committed five costly errors.
