Box Score 2 Saint Leo, Fla.—Lynn University's softball team fell in both games of a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader on Sunday to the Saint Leo University Lions. The Fighting Knights lost game one 9-3 then went down in game two 15-0.
Lauren Garceau collected four hits in six at bats on the day for Lynn (2-46, 1-22 SSC) and added seven assists with no errors. Bianca Savulak totaled two hit s and a walk in five at bats.
In game one, the Fighting Knights struck first in the top of the third. After Marianne Johnson grounded out, Christina Carvatta singled to short followed by a Savulak single to left. Garceau then singled to right to load the bases for Kaci Vassallo.
Vassallo then ripped her fifth double of the year to the right center field gap to score all three runners on base and put the Blue & White up 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions cut the deficit down to one on two runs from two hits. One of the Lions' runs in the fourth was a result of at Lynn error.
With seven hits, Saint Leo posted a seven-run fifth to capture the lead for the first time in the game.
Missy Montgomery went the distance for Lynn and gave up eight earned runs on 13 hits.
The Fighting Knights saw a similar fate in game two of the doubleheader as Kasey Murray took the circle for Lynn and struggled with control, allowing nine runs on three hits in the first frame.
Lynn tallied its first and only hit of the second game in the fourth inning when Garceau doubled down the left field line with one out. Garceau advanced to third on a Vassallo fly out but could not score as Anne Marie Van Casteren flied out to short to end the inning.
Murray's day was done after one inning and Montgomery totaled three innings of relief work.
