Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's women's soccer team could not bounce back from an early goal and was taken down by Barry University 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Lynn Soccer Fields. Jordan Turner notched the lone goal for the Fighting Knights, her second consecutive match with a goal but it wasn't enough to get the win.
The Bucs (10-3-1, 5-0-1 SSC) were the first to put a score on the board in the 8th minute when a cross sent from the right side found an unmarked player on the far post. A low header just inside the left post by Lauren Manna beat Meghan Dolan taking the 1-0 lead.
Lynn (4-6-3, 1-2-2 SSC) found it difficult to maintain possession of the ball and was unable to get a shot off until the 39th minutes of play. Kirstie Shults took the ball to net on a through pass but, after a collision with goalkeeper Becca Rogers, hit the ball wide.
The Fighting Knights' defense headed by center defenders Georgia Robert and Paige Meggison with Lina Foresman on the left and Brittany Garbina on the right, had a respectable performance in the first half holding a strong line by only allowing one goal out of the six shots that were attempted.
The Blue and White came out tough in the second half putting pressure on right from the whistle. Amanda Feldstein was able to get two quick shots of in the opening five minutes forcing Rogers to make a couple good saves.
It wasn't until the 79th minute that Lynn's effort converted into a goal. Turner got the ball at her feet and turned the defenders, giving her a one-on-one opportunity with Rogers. A low hard ball driven to the far post would even the score 1-1.
With only ten minutes remaining and the score tied, both teams were working to get the game winning goal. The Buc's would strike again the in 86th minute when a corner kick taken by Manna was one-timed by Amber Smith for the final mark of the match, taking the game 2-1.
Barry held a slight 2-1 advantage in corners and outshot the Fighting Knights 10-7. Dolan and Rogers have four saves a piece.
