Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.-Lynn University's women's soccer team battled for a 3-3 draws in an intense matchup against Florida Southern on Saturday night. Kirstie Schults lead the attack with two goals and an assist while Jordyn Turner notched a goal and an assist for her third goal in three games to tie the match.
Lynn 4-6-4, 1-2-3 SSC fought for possession of the ball in the first half but the head to head battle wouldn't allow for either team to dominate. The Moccasins 3-9-4,1-4-1 SSC slightly outshot the Fighting Knights taking four shots while the Blue and White recorded three attempts. Both teams unsuccessful leaving the score tied at half.
The Fighting Knights would start the second half with a goal in the first minutes of play. Summer Schults got the ball from Jordyn Turner off the kick-off. A cross from the right wing sent to Kirstie Schults would put the first score on the board giving Lynn the early 1-0 second half lead.
Twenty minutes later the dynamic duo would strike again. Turner got the ball on the right flank, dribbled the ball down field beating two defenders and sending a cross to Schults who slid into the ball for a goal improving to a 2-0 score.
Florida Southern got their first mark on the board in the 73rd minute of play when Jackie Meltz sent a ball across the box to the right side finding Sarah Goolsby. Megan Dolan was caught off guard and the Moccasins would get their first goal cutting the Fighting Knights lead to 2-1. A costly mistake by the Lynn defense would even the score 2-2 in the 75th minute. A loose ball in the back field just after a corner kick was cleared into another Lynn defender defecting back into their own goal.
The Blue and White would strike one final time in the 81st minute when Kirstie Schults intercepted a pass and in the midfield and on a quick counter attack drove the ball to goal. Schults crossed the ball to the center of the box to find Tuner with a one-time volley into the net and taking the lead once again.
Lynn was unable to hold the Moccasins off for the remaining nine minutes of play. Florida Southern capitalized in the 87th minute for the last goal of the match when a corner kick that was not cleared gave Florida Southern a chance to score leveling the game at 3-3 and sending the match into over time.
Two ten minute overtime periods would sanction dangerous opportunities for both sides but neither team would finish leaving the match undecided after 110 minutes of play. Dolan and Mosley would each be tested for eight saves while Florida Southern maintained the advantage in corner kicks 6-1 and outshot the Fighting Knights 21-15.
