Winter Park, Fla. – It was a battle between two heavy weights but Lynn University's men's soccer team fell just short in a 1-0 loss at top-ranked Rollins on Tuesday night.  Harris Smiler turned away four shots after entering as a defensive replacement.  The Fighting Knights drop to 8-5-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.

It was a tough first half offensively for both teams as Lynn's and Rollins' defenses were are their best.  The Tars (15-0-0, 7-0-0 SSC) jumped on a defensive gaffe in the 36th minute when Mark Biddinger slipped a long ball through the center of the LU 18-yard box uncontested and Evan Greenbaum was able to capitalize to put Rollins on top 1-0.

Lynn had several second-half opportunities to equalize, starting with Simon Gubisch in the 74th minute.  The lefty midfielder turned around his defender and made a bee-line towards goal, drawing in two defenders in the process.  Rollins' keeper Keneil Baker made an effort to stop the play but Gubisch dribbled around and looked at an open net.  The Tars were able to clear the pass inside the six-yard box and maintain their lead.

Smiler kept the team close with a minute to play when he made a diving stop on Brett Durrance's shot inside the box.  He entered in the 8th minute following an injury to starter Kevin Shields.  He was immediately tested with a corner kick and later made an aerial stop in the top-right corner from a Rollins shot.

Rollins out shot Lynn 10-8 and held a slight 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
