Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's men's basketball team ended the 2013 portion of the season on a high note with a 75-63 win over Clayton State in a regional matchup on Saturday. Aaron Harrison was the backbone of the Fighting Knights offense scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Fred Landers added 17 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double, with nine boards. Clayton State's Craig Wong led all scorers with 26 points.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. The Fighting Knights held a slim 34-33 advantage at the half after shooting 43.3 percent from the field. Lynn pulled down 17 boards in the opening frame, seven of which were by Harrison. The junior from Atlanta, Ga., also posted a team-high 11 points while Landers and Haki Stampley each scored eight.
Lynn fell behind by as many as nine in the opening minutes of the second half but the Fighting Knights would go on a 13-0 run that gave them a lead they would hold until the final buzzer. The Lakers trailed by as many as 15 with 2:01 to play before the final buzzer sounded with Lynn ahead by 12.
Harrison added another 11 points in the second half while Landers had nine and Kaleb Clyburn had eight. Lynn shot an impressive 50 percent from the field and 60 percent from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes. The Blue & White held Clayton State to 32.3 percent from the field despite Wong posting 15 points in the half.
Overall the Fighting Knights shot 50 percent from behind the arc and 81 percent from the charity stripe. Lynn's defense was the key in the victory pulling down 39 rebounds, 25 on defense. Clyburn led all players with six assists while adding ten points. The Knights scored 21 points off turnovers and tallied 16 second chance points as well.
Lynn (6-4) on the season and will take a short recess for the holidays before returning home to the de Hoernle Center on January 4, when the Fighting Knights host Palm Beach Atlantic at 4 pm.
