Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Momentum from last weekend's Sunshine State Conference victory was halted for Lynn University's softball team after an 11-0 loss to No. 25 Saint Leo in the series opener Friday afternoon. Kasey Murray fanned three batters in three innings of relief but the Fighting Knights bats were held hitless. Lynn drops to 19-26 overall and 5-14 in SSC play.
Missy Montgomery had little trouble in the opening frame and even receive some defensive help as catcher Devin Kochergen threw out NCAA Division II stolen base leader McKenzie Burns attempting to swipe second base.
Conversely, the Lions defense fell asleep in the home half with an error by second baseman Torrie Weindorf to allow LU to keep the inning alive. But Alana Tabel was able to induce a weak pop up to short to end the inning.
Saint Leo (35-14, 15-4 SSC) then started to hit Montgomery in the second, batting around and sending 12 ladies to the plate in scoring seven runs. Tabel then retired eight consecutive before hitting Kaci Vassallo in the fourth.
Kasey Murray took the circle in the third and allowed only two hits but walked four batters while the defense committed three errors to allow SLU four runs.
The Blue & White look to even things up in the series when they host the Lions for a Saturday doubleheader, beginning at 10 a.m. Fans can catch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com or receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
