Boca Raton, Fla. – Lynn University's Men's Tennis team fell 5-2 in an exciting Sunshine State Conference Final on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights came up short against the No. 2 Buccaneers of Barry University, who remain undefeated at 23-0, while Lynn moves to 16-6 on the season.
In a tough doubles set up, Lynn fell 2-1 to the Buccaneers with No. 3 Willi Wolfer and Vlad Cirla defeating No. 2 Marco Mokrzycki and Fabian Groetsch, 8-5. Ollie Lemaitre and Max Wimmer beat Max Kouyate and Alessio Iannozzi, 8-3. Romain Costamagna and Leo Vivas defeated Simon Gloeckner and Pavel Mojha, 8-3, in the number three doubles spot.
After a conduct violation by Barry's No. 19 Groetsch, LU's No. 23 Cirla won by default to even the match score at 2-all before singles play began. No. 22 Wimmer defeated No. 27 Kouyate in sets of 6-4 and 6-1 to give Barry a 3-2 edge.
No. 9 Wolfer lost his first set in a, 7-6 (7-5), tiebreaker before No. 4 took the match in a 6-0 second set. With Pavel Mojha fighting for every point at the number five spot, he dropped his first set in a 7-6 (9-7) tiebreaker decision to Vivas. Lemaitre defeated Lynn's Gloeckner in three sets for the final point of the game. Gloeckner took a 6-0 first set victory before falling 3-6, 0-6 in the final two sets.
