Men's Basketball Picks up First SSC Win

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's men's basketball team defeated Rollins (7-7, 2-3 SSC), 70-67, on Wednesday night in the de Hoernle Center for its first Sunshine State Conference victory of the season. Haki Stampley led the Fighting Knights with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Aaron Harrison added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Lynn while the Tars were led by Alex Blessig who had 14 points and eight rebounds. 

The Tars took an early six point lead after a jumper by Blessig just four minutes into the game. Harrison evened the score,16-all, with a pair of free throws minutes later. Rollins held the lead until the final minute of the game when Stampley hit a shot from downtown for a 29-28 lead. The Tars answered back to head into the locker rooms ahead 30-29.

Harrison led all leaders with 12 points in the first half helping Lynn to shoot 32 percent from the field. The Blue & White slightly edged the visitors, 20-18, in rebounds while holding Rollins to 30.8 percent from behind the arc. Lynn connected on 8-of-11 free throws; six of those were made by Harrison.

Rollins extended its lead to seven with 14:18 remaining in regulation but Lynn would go on a 13-3 run sealed with a trey from Stampley followed by a layup from Harrison to go ahead by two. The lead would flip-flop through the final minutes of the game until Lynn had a five point advantage with 30 seconds to play. A pair of shots from the charity line by Kaleb Clyburn would seal the 70-67 victory for the Blue & White. 

The Fighting Knights shot 56 percent in the second half with Stampley leading the way draining four three-point shots for 12 points. Clyburn shot 2-for-3 from the field while added four free throws for 10 points in the final frame. The Blue & White shot 61.5 percent from three-point range while holding the visitors to just 46.2 percent. 

Harrison had his fifth consecutive double-double performance joining Stampley with 18 points apiece to lead all scorers. Clyburn had 13 points, three assists and two steals while Landers had 10 points six rebounds and four assists.
