Box Score Volleyball Concludes Play in Crossover with Shutout
Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team concluded play in the South Region Crossover with a 3-0 victory over Union University (25-17, 25-14, 25-9) on Saturday afternoon in the first ever meeting between the programs. This marks the first time that the Fighting Knights have gone through a Crossover without a loss since the 2009 campaign. With the victory Lynn improves to 10-8 on the season.
Lizzy Raffa posted a season-high 10 kills in the victory, tied with Liga Strautniece for most on the squad. Strautniece posted a .833 clip with zero errors. Marissa Tandron dished out 32 assists in the sweep.
Defensively Nikki Haben anchored the team with 17 digs. At the net Clair Angelich was involved in six of the Fighting Knights 11 blocks.
As a team the Fighting Knights held Union University to a -.033 hitting percentage, the first time they had a team finish with a negative clip this season.
Lynn set the tempo for the afternoon early, scoring eight of the opening 10 points and preventing the Bulldogs from getting within three for the majority of the set. The Fighting Knights final four points of the frame came in the form of service aces and Strautniece kills.
A game-high .414 hitting percentage in the second stanza helped put the Blue & White up 2-0. With the score at 12-9 Lynn went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by two service aces from Raffa, to put the match out of reach.
In the finale the Fighting Knights held their opposition to only two kills and a -.320 hitting percentage en route to the sweep. Lynn managed their biggest lead of the match at 16, when a block by Allie Kolakowski and Kendall Peterson gave the team match point.
