Box Score Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – Playing down a man for much of the game in wet and slippery conditions, Lynn University's women's soccer team dropped to 4-9-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the Sunshine State Conference following a 5-0 loss at Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night.
The Sharks (5-6-0, 2-5-0 SSC) found the back of the net twice in the opening 8:15 of play to build a 2-0 lead over the Fighting Knights. Lynn then found itself playing a man down in the 21st minute when Caitlin Shaver took down a NSU player as the last defender remaining, drawing a red card from the referee.
Katie Nimitz entered in relief and was immediately tested with a shot by Julia Nytorp from the top of the box. Nimitz saved the initial attempt but the ball skidded off the slippery turf and Sierra Lelii scored her second goal of the half to make it 3-0.
Nova Southeastern added two more goals in the second half to build its advantage to 5-0.
Nimitz logged a career-best six saves in the loss. Lynn was outshot 24-9 but held a slight 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Fighting Knights return to action on Saturday, October 25, at 4:30 p.m. when they host Saint Leo at Bobby Campbell Stadium. Lynn will honor the eight seniors prior to the match.
