Box Score St. Petersburg, Fla.- Lynn University's women's soccer team (3-6) fell to 0-3 in Sunshine State Conference play with a 2-1 loss to Eckerd (5-3, 1-0) on the road Saturday. Kirstie Schults scored Lynn's lone goal for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Linzi Martin earned the assist, her first of 2014, while Caitlin Shaver made three saves in goal.
The Tritons took an early lead in their first SSC match of the season when Arie Anahory scored her 10th goal of the season on an assist by Monique Elliot. Eckerd scored a minute and a half later to take a 2-0 lead that they would hold throughout the first half. Abby Sanchez scored on a cross from Katie Shafer beating out Lynn's goalkeeper Shaver. EC outshot Lynn 6-3 in the first half and edged the Fighting Knights 3-0 in corner kicks.
After the break Lynn came out hot, scoring in the 46th minute to cut the deficit in half. Kirstie Schults ticked the ball past EC's goalkeeper Morgan Crescent on a beautiful pass from Linzi Martin from 10 yards out. Despite holding possession majority of the second half and outshooting the Tritons 6-3, Lynn was unable to score again. Turner took a team-high three shots in the loss, including one as the final seconds ran down.
Shaver made two saves in the second half and Lynn held a 4-1 advantage in corners. Both teams finished the match even in shots with nine a piece.
Lynn returns home on Tuesday, October 7, to face Rollins at 4:30 pm at Bobby Campbell Stadium. In non-conference action the Tars blanked Lynn 4-0 earlier this season.
