Softball Sweeps Ave Maria on the Road

Immokalee, Fla.- Lynn University's softball swept Ave Maria in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Fighting Knights opened with an 8-3 win followed by an astonishing 20-0 domination ending in five innings. Kasey Murray pitched a complete game to start the day allowing eight hits for her fourth win of the season. Missy Montgomery finished AMU off on the mound for the second game in her first win of the season, allowing only four hits.  At the plate, Devin Kochergen was the star of the day with five hits, including two home runs, and eight runs batted, hitting 5-for-8 over the two-game stretch.

Lynn scored first in the top of the third inning when Kochergen blasted the ball out of the park, scoring Vazquez from second base. The Fighting Knights added three more runs in the top of the fourth with three doubles by Leanne Wright, Danielle McNeill and Vazquez taking a 5-0 lead.

The Fighting Knights kept a hot bat with Cherise McEnry hitting a bomb deep into center field in the top of the fifth for the second home run of the game.  Lynn would score a solo run in the sixth inning, when Kochergen doubled down right center to send McNeill home, and again in the seventh when Murray scored on an AMU error.

Kochergen went 3-for-4 with five RBIs while McEnery when 3-for-3 and four RBIs.

Montgomery started the second game in the pitching circle for Lynn and only allowed four hits for the complete game shutout.

Lynn started strong in the first inning, with five hits and four runs. With two runners on, Kochergan hit a bomb down the left field line, claiming her second home run of the day and bringing home Danielle McNeill and Sara Vazquez.  McEnery kept up the pace with another well hit ball deep into right field, this one stayed inside the park but still brought Kaci Vassallo home for the fourth run scored in the inning.

AMU struggled on the mound in the second inning, hitting two runners back-to-back, and walking another. The Fighting Knights took advantage of good scoring position and were able to get another three RBI's on an AMU error and a SAC pop by McEnery.

The Blue and White came up big yet again in the third inning with the bases loaded Korchergen singled to left field but advanced to second on an overthrown ball scoring McNeill and Cydney Schmidt. Murray found a gap in left center, sending Vazquez in for another run scored. Another three runs were brought home, started by a costly error by AMU's catcher, over throwing first base.

The last two innings brought another six runs batted in to overcome AMU 20-0. McEnery went 3-for-3 with two hits and four RBI's while Korchergen went 3-for-4 with three hits and four RBI's.
