Softball Extends Win Streak to Five at Sailfish Showdown

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- Lynn University's softball team finished out the Sailfish Showdown hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic with a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon at the Lake Cathrine Sports Complex. The Blue & White claimed the first game of the day, 10-2, over Goldey-Beacom (0-5) in just five innings before taking down the Flagler Saints 3-1. The Fighting Knights improve to 11-6 on the season.


Katelyn Key (2-1) pitched a complete game to open the day, tossing five innings allowing just five hits while striking out two for her second win of the season.

Lynn was the first to score in the second inning, which started when Crystal Cano singled up the middle scoring Kasey Murray, who reached on an error to begin the inning. McNeill and Devin Kochergen both hit RBI's singles to give Lynn three more runs for a 4-0 lead.

Goldey-Beacom rallied in the third, driving in two runs but the Fighting Knights quickly answered back in the bottom of the inning scoring six runs on three hits and a pair of errors by the Lightning.

GBC had an opportunity with bases loaded in the fourth, but Michelle Foster grounded out to shortstop to retire the side. A one-two-three inning for the Lightning sealed Lynn's fourth straight victory.

Crystal Cano and Danielle McNeill both went 2-for-4 at the plate; scoring two runs and an RBI each while Sara Vazquez also had a multi-hit game. Cortney Dolson received the loss pitching two and to thirds innings despite not allowing an earned run for GBC.

In the second game of the day, The Blue & White overcame Flagler (8-9), 3-1. Kasey Murray pitched a complete game holding the Saints to one run while allowing five hits for her sixth win of the season improving her record to 6-4.

Cydney Schmidt singled up the middle for an RBI single to put the Fighting Knights on the board in the bottom of the second. Lynn added two more comfort runs the in fifth to put the finishing touches on the game. With the bases loaded Kaci Vassallo hit a sacrifice fly deep into center field scoring Vazquez, taking a 3-0 lead.

Flagler pressured in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring one run on a hit and an error, but the Fighting Knights held on for a 3-1 regional win.

The Blue & White will return to the diamond on Friday, February 28, hosting Rollins at 3:00 pm for the Sunshine State Conference season opener.
