Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University's sixth-ranked women's tennis team continued its dominance over No. 9 Rollins with a 7-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. The top-half of the Fighting Knights singles and doubles positions took care of business in winning for the 32nd time in the last 33 meetings against the Tars. Lynn improves to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
It took little time for the fifth-ranked duo of Vale Confalonieri and Ioana Ivan to dispatch of Elissa DeCampli and Ashley Loft as the No.1 doubles position won easily 8-2. The Blue & White then picked up its second point of the match nearly as quick with Andrea Berkova and Rosalie Willig topping Ashley Rosenberg and Shannon Etten 8-4. Rollins' (2-2, 0-1 SSC) one doubles point came at the No. 3 position where Carli Davis and Taylor Brown needed a tie-breaker to top Alina Jane and Kim Przeszlowski 9-8 (7-4).
No. 1 ranked Confalonieri was able to give Lynn a 3-1 lead following a 6-3, 6-0 victory over 40th-ranked DeCampli. It was then up to Willig and Berkova to secure the victory for the Fighting Knights. Willig topped Etten 6-1, 6-1while Berkoba was a 6-4, 6-3 winner.
Ivan had an unusual route to victory, topping Rosenberg 6-1 in the opening set before dropping the second set 1-6. The 11th-ranked senior then returned to her form with a 6-1 third set at the No. 2 singles spot. Przeszlowski picked up the final point with a 6-1, 6-3 win in No. 6 singles over Johanna Olsson. Just as in doubles, the Tars needed a tie-breaker to claim a point in singles with Mariana Salvador topping Jane 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 10-6.
