BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's women's tennis team (15-0) defeated NAIA top-ranked Auburn Montgomery (8-5), 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon. The Fighting Knights are 8-6 all-time against the Warhawks since first meeting in 1993.
Lynn's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams cruised past AUM both with 8-2 wins for a 2-0 lead. Auburn Montgomery did not go down without a battle, winning 8-2 at the third doubles spot. Fifth-ranked Valentine Confalonieri and Ioana Ivan remain a perfect 15-0 on the season at the top spot in Lynn's lineup.
The Fighting Knights swept singles play for the 8-1 win. No. 11 Ivan defeated No. 22 Chanel Cunningham, 6-0, 6-1. The victory dealt the senior from Snogov, Romania, her 24th-straight singles win, a streak that began on March 20, 2013. Rosalie Willig defeated Paula Diaz, 6-1, 6-2, before top-ranked Confalonieri took down No. 2 Jade Curtis at the number one singles spot securing the Blue & White's win.
Kim Przeszlowski and Aleks Vukadinovic won at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots while Alina Jane came back from an opening set deficit to win 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.
The Blue & White will hit the road to Savannah, Ga., this weekend where they will face defending National Champion Armstrong on Friday, March 14.
