BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's sixth-ranked women's tennis team defeated No. 16 Azusa Pacific, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Azusa, Calif. Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Valentine Confalonieri continued to dominate on the court winning at both the No. 1 singles and doubles spots for the Blue & White.
Lynn's top pair, Confalonieri and Ioana Ivan, who rank fifth nationally, blanked No. 20 Danae Ingwaldson and Emily Harris, 8-0, to start the match. Rosalie Willig and Andrea Berkova gave the Fighting Knights a two-point lead with an 8-2 win over Lindsey Yeom and Kim Koetterheinrich at the No. 2 doubles spot. Alina Jane and Kim Przeszlowski completed the doubles sweep with a 9-8 (7-4) win.
No. 11 Ivan was the first to finish in singles action when she defeated Ingwaldson in straight sets of 6-1. 21st-ranked Berkova put Lynn within one point of clinching a victory when she beat Yeom, 6-1, 6-0, at the four spot. Top-ranked Confalonieri bead No. 25 Harris in two sets, each 6-2, to seal the Blue & White's victory. Willig, Aleks Vukadinovic and Jane all won their singles matches to complete Lynn's sweep of the Cougars.
The Fighting Knights improve to 10-0 this season while APU falls to 8-3. The women's tennis team returns to the courts at 1:30 p.m., Pacific Standard Time, on Wednesday, March 5, for a match against Westmont College. The Warriors are coming off an 8-1 loss to Azusa Pacific and currently rank twelfth in the NAIA.
