Baseball Charges Past Dominican

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's 21st-ranked baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 10-5 victory over Dominican on Wednesday.  Alex Freedman went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in and Michael Stemle was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI while Alejandro Caballero tossed over four innings of scoreless no-hit relief.  The Fighting Knights improve to 16-3 overall.

Runs in the first through fourth innings helped the Blue & White build a 6-1 lead over the Chargers (1-3).  Sal Giardina drove home the first run in the opening frame with an RBI single while Albert LeFran and Freedman helped Lynn increase the scoring with three runs in the second.

Stemle made it 5-0 with a RBI single before the Chargers were able to capitalize on a failed pick-off attempt to get on the board in the fourth.  Lynn responded with a run of its own in the home half but its defense faltered in the fifth with three errors which led to four unearned runs.

Starter Jose Parra held Dominican in check with a final line of 4.2 innings, seven hits, five runs allowed, one earned run and one strikeout.

Caballero (1-0) entered in relief in the fifth and kept the Fighting Knights on top 6-5.  Lynn's bats heated up in the sixth with a RBI single from Freedman and a sacrifice fly by Tom Kain.  A wild pitch in the eighth and RBI single from Matt Ackerman put the game out of reach, 10-5.

Making just his third appearance of the season, Caballero was masterful on the mound.  He did not allow a hit or walk and struck out one batter to pick up his first career victory.

Ackerman and Lefran each notched multi-hit outings, combining to go 5-for-10 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

The Fighting Knights are back in action on Saturday, March 8, at when they host Winona State at 11 a.m. and Molloy at 3 p.m.  Fans can watch the game live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter, Instagram and Vine.
