Box Score 2 Saint Leo, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team fell on the wrong side of a doubleheader sweep, dropping the first contest 11-3 before falling in the nightcap 5-0 on Saturday. Devin Kochergen notched hits in both contest while all three Fighting Knights pitcher saw the field. With the sweep Lynn drops to 20-28 overall and 4-17 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Facing the mercy rule in the opener, Lynn scored a pair of runs in the fifth to extend the contest. Daniele McNeill singled to right center, scoring Cydney Schmidt for the first run of the inning. Later in the frame, Kasey Murray put a ball in play to score Sara Vazquez and make it a seven-run contest. In the bottom of the inning, though, Saint Leo (26-18, 8-10 SSC) scored a walk-off run to end the contest.
The first run of the day for the Fighting Knights came off a solo home run by Kochergen. With the blast to center field, the senior from Madera Ranchos, Calif., is tied for second in program history with 13 home runs in a single season while her 46 RBIs are third-best. Not to be overlooked is Cherise McEnry, who's 33 RBIs and 10 home runs and is tied for eighth and ninth, respectively.
Murray (8-13) was tagged with the loss, throwing 3.2 innings.
In the series finale, Lynn was unable to get on the scoreboard but held the Lions to a series-low five runs. Along with Kochergen, Leanne Wright recorded a hit in the loss.
Katelyn Key (3-5) started with Missy Montgomery pitching relief. Key struck out two and allowed two hits in 3.1 innings before Montgomery finished with 2.2 scoreless frames.
