No. 5 Women's Tennis Drops Final SSC Match to No. 1 Barry

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's fifth-ranked women's tennis team lost, 7-2, to rival Barry on Saturday morning. The Fighting Knights were battling the Buccaneers in the final SSC match of the season, one that would determine the first-ever Sunshine State Conference Regular Season Champion. Lynn finishes the regular season 20-2 overall and 7-1 in SSC action while Barry earns its 20th win and finishes the season a perfect 8-0 in conference play. 

The Blue & White trailed early in all three doubles matches. No. 1 Valentine Confalonieri and Ioana Ivan found themselves in a 3-0 hole to No. 25 Kimmy Twelker and Anaeve Pain at the top of the doubles lineup. No. 6 Linda Fritschken and Emma Onila had a lead on Lynn's Andrea Berkova and Rosalie Willig while Alina Jane and Kim Przeszlowski trailed 1-0 to Elisabeth Abanda and Karina Goia at No. 3 doubles. 

Jane and Przeszlowski fell first in an 8-4 loss to the Bucs at No. 3 doubles. The Fighting Knights No. 1 doubles pair battled back but lost 8-6 to snap a 26-match win streak that began April 18, 2013. Berkova and Willig lost, 8-6, for jus their second loss of the season. Both losses for Lynn's No. 2 doubles team came against nationally-ranked opponents. 

With a 3-0 lead after doubles Barry stood just two points away from the win. Kim Przeszlowski lost, 6-2. 6-0, at No. 6 singles to Twelker putting the Buccaneers within one point of beating Lynn for the 13th time since the two first clashed in 1988. 

No. 1 Valentine Confalonieri defeated No. 7 Onila at the top singles spot, 6-1, 6-3, for Lynn's first point. Jane's loss at No. 4 singles to Pain sealed the victory for Barry. No. 36 Berkova retired after her first set for Barry to gain their sixth point of the match. Willig, who ranks 46th in the most recent ITA polls, lost 6-3, 6-2, to No. 10 Goia before No. 12 Ivan defeated No. 43 Fritschken, 6-3, 6-2. 

Ivan improves to 31 consecutive singles wins, a streak that began March 30, 2013. Confalonieri's career singles record improves to 39-2 while she improves her win street to 27.
