Box Score West Palm Beach, Fla.- Lynn University' women's soccer team advanced to 3-3 on the season with a last second goal by Jordyn Turner in double overtime against Palm Beach Atlantic (2-4) on Wednesday night. Turner recorded both goals for the Blue & White and Caitlin Shaver continued her great season in goal recording 11 saves.
Lynn took an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on Turner's goal from 25 yards out on a long cross that caught the perfect angle of the net. It wasn't long before Palm Beach Atlantic answered back in the 11th minute on a goal by Kasey Wyer who was assisted by Audrey Decker. The Fighting Knights outshot the Sailfish 11-6 in the opening 45 minutes and had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Caitlin Shaver made two saves in the first half as did her PBA counterpart Kayla Wincko.
Knotted 1-all after the break, both teams exchanged shots throughout the second half. Shaver made eight saves while the Sailfish sent 13 shots her way. At the end of regulation the Fighting Knights edged PBA 20-19 in shots and each team had 12 fouls.
After 19 minutes of overtime and a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, Lynn caught a break when a foul was called in favor of the Blue & White with 30 seconds left on the clock. Megan Dolan passed the ball to Lauren Handley who send a long ball into the box from midfield where Turner got her head on the ball to notch her second goal of the game with five seconds left on the clock.
Shaver made double-digit saves for the third straight game and faced 21 shots from the Sailfish. Lynn edged PBA 24-21 in shots and 6-4 in corner kicks in the regional win.
The Fighting Knights return to action on Saturday, September 27 for the Sunshine State Conference Season opener. The Blue & White will host Tampa at 4:30 pm at Bobby Campbell Stadium on the campus of Lynn University.
