Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Another last minute goal was not enough for Lynn University's women's soccer team as they fell 3-1 to 13th-ranked University of Tampa on Saturday afternoon. Jordyn Turner tallied her third goal in her last two games and Caitlin Shaver notched eight saves. The Fighting Knights drop to 3-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Tampa (7-0-2, 1-0-0 SSC) scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to grab a 2-0 lead over the Blue & White. Madison Cox was the first to find the back of the net 6:51 into play, off a header from a Gabby Russo corner kick. Cici Gonzalez later scored the first of her two goals from Lauren Moore when her shot landed inside the left post in the 10th minute.
The Spartans held a 16-0 shot advantage in the opening half and 29-3 mark for the game. Tampa also had an 8-2 overall lead in corner kicks.
Gonzalez gave UT a 3-0 lead in the 56th minute after taking a through ball on the left side from Moore, driving on net and slipping a shot past a drawn out Shaver for the goal.
Lynn did not give up and was able to get on the scoreboard in the 89th minute of play. Kirstie Schults beat one defender on the right wing, cut back on the end line and crossed a ball to the top of the box. Turner collected and unleashed a shot above the head of keeper Sydney Ross for her third goal of the season.
