Box Score Savannah, Ga.- Not even 48 hours after claiming their first victory of the season, Lynn University's women's soccer team returned to the pitch for a regional match against Armstrong. The Fighting Knights fell, 3-0, to the Pirates on the road and return home 1-1 on the season while Armstrong (1-1) earned its first win of the season.
Lynn's goalkeeper Caitlin Shaver faced 12 shots in the opening half, allowing just one ball to get by while making six saves. In the 20th minute Armstrong's Jenny Allen connected on a cross from Sarah Olin six feet in front of the box to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. With ten minutes remaining before halftime, the game was sent into a lighting delay. After the delay, Armstrong held off the Blue & White to remain on top at the buzzer.
The Pirates edged Lynn 7-0 in corners in the first half. Lynn fired off four shots in the opening frame while the Pirates starting keeper, Morgan Luckie, denied two balls.
Five minutes into the second half Olin scored unassisted from 25 feet out on a shot that went just out of reach of Shaver. Lynn had a chance to cut the deficit in half in the 53rd minute when Lauren Handley took a penalty kick.
Handley's shot hit the post keeping the Fighting Knights down, 2-1. Two minutes later Taylor Valley beat Lynn's defense down the left line of a throw in where Olin earned her second assist of the game while the Pirates increased their lead to three.
Shaver made two saves in the final 45 minutes where Armstrong's offense sent eight shots her way. Three keepers saw time in net for the Pirates with Luckie playing the bulk of the game. Shaver made a career-high seven saves in the loss while playing a full 90 minutes. Lynn was edged by Armstrong, 11-0, in corner kicks while the Fighting Knights took six shots, three on goal, in the game.
