BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's seventh-ranked men's tennis program opened the 2015 campaign with a sweep of St. Thomas. Overall the Fighting Knights are now 18-0 versus the Bobcats.
Fernando Rivas and Alessio Iannozzi earned the first point for the Fighting Knights with an 8-1 victory over Alain Weil and Jamie Spruill in the third slot. In the second flight Mehdi Laalej and Pavel Mojha took an 8-2 decision. The top-ranked duo of Daniel Riggs and Paolo Volpicelli concluded doubles action with an 8-3 victory.
In singles play Rivas began his Lynn career with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rosner on court two. In the third slot, Mojha won the match for the Fighting Knights with an identical 6-1, 6-0 score over Abia. On the main court, 23rd-ranked Riggs defeated Juan Bravo 6-2, 6-3.
With the final three in a first to eight formats, Iannozzi earned the first win 8-1 over Soto. Volpicelli followed with the same result, 8-1, in the fourth slot over Dasso. Ethan Itzkovitz was the final Knight to finish with an 8-2 debut win over Ariel Listo.
Sunshine State Conference play begins on Saturday for Lynn when they host 13th-ranked Rollins. Last season the Fighting Knights swept the Tars in their three matches, two coming in the postseason.
