St. Petersburg, Fla. – Lynn University's seventh-ranked men's tennis team returned to its winning ways, defeating Eckerd 8-1 on Friday afternoon. With the victory Lynn improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Eckerd recorded its lone point of the match in doubles play, but not before the Fighting Knights put two on the board. The top dup of Pavel Mojha and Mehdi Laalej recorded an 8-0 effort for the opening point over Yosua Adiyasa and Frazier Springfield. At the second spot, Daniel Riggs and Fernando Rivas won 8-4 over Stephen Felman and Victor Appelqvist. The final doubles bout to end was a 5-8 loss for Zdenek Sevik and Danyang Xu, both making their first appearances this season.
In singles action Mojha won at the three position with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Springfield to improve his personal record to 4-1. Rivas, playing in the two spot, won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 over Felman to maintain his perfect record. Riggs won the match-clinching point at the main court with a 6-2, 6-4 score over Adiyasa.
In the bottom draw Laalej continued the rout with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the four slot over Eddie Lewis. Making his first appearance this season, Javier Anegon won at the six spot 8-4 over Connor Masella. Ethan Itzkovitz, also playing his first match of 2015, cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Appelqvist in the fifth position.
