West Palm Beach, Fla. – Down 2-1 after doubles, Lynn University's seventh-ranked men's tennis team used four singles victories to down Palm Beach Atlantic 5-4 on Tuesday night. Danny Riggs carried the load with victories in both singles and doubles play. The Fighting Knights improve to 5-1 overall.
Before a blink of an eye, the Fighting Knights were trailing 1-0 following a loss at the No. 3 doubles position. Riggs and Fernando Rivas knotted the match at 1-1 with the win at No. 2 but the Blue & White could not sustain the momentum at the top doubles position with Mehdi Laalej/Pavel Mojha falling 8-5.
PBA upped its advantage to 3-2 after splitting the Nos. 2 & 3 singles positions. Rivas would fall, 6-3 and 6-4, but Mojha claimed a 6-3 and 6-3 victory. With the team in peril, Riggs came back from a set down to win 6-7, 6-2 and 6-0 and breathe new life into the squad, while evening the match at 3-3.
Laalej put away his opponent at the No. 4 position, 6-3 and 6-1, and then Javier Agenon staked claim to the win by knocking off Matt Leeds 6-1 and 6-2.
The Fighting Knights return to the courts on Monday, March 2nd, at 2 p.m. when they travel to Saint Augustine to take on Flagler. Fans can receive in-match updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
