Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's softball team split a pair of regional games with Palm Beach Atlantic on Sunday afternoon. The Blue and White improves to 8-5 overall and the Sailfish move to .500 this season with a 10-10 record. Sara Vazquez went 4-for-5 on the day with a double and three runs scored while Leanne Wright had two runs batted in in game two.
After postponing the games yesterday in the bottom of the first inning of game one with Lynn ahead 1-0 and bases loaded, the Fighting Knights returned to the diamond on Sunday to win, 2-1. PBA then took game two, 5-2.
Missy Montgomery earned the win in game one as she pitched a complete game allowing one run on five hit. She struck out two batters in the victory improving her record to 5-1 this season.
Palm Beach Atlantic tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Knight in the top of the fifth inning but a double by Lynn senior Kaci Vassallo drove in Vasquez on a double to center field.
Lynn had four hits in the win while scored two runs and drew a pair of walks. Palm Beach Atlantic's Boggess was hit with the loss as she tossed six innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three.
In game two, Vazquez had three hits and an RBI for the Blue & White. Lynn's southpaw Francais Olexa was credited with the loss after tossing five innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out a pair of Sailfish.
Vazquez crossed home plate on a fielder's choice by Leanne Wright in the bottom of the first to give Lynn a 1-0 advantage. PBA answered with one run in each of the next two innings to take a 2-1 lead. The Sailfish plated two runs in the fifth inning before Olexa was able to end the inning with a pop up with PBA ahead 4-1.
Palm Beach Atlantic plated I fifth run in the top of the sixth on a single off of Lynn's reliever, Katelyn Key. Vazquez drove in Lynn's second run on a double to center in the bottom of the seventh that plate Christina Carvatta who led off the inning with a bunt single. The Sailfish ended Lynn's threat with runners on first and second with an uncommon triple play.
Ly had eight hits in the loss with Carvatta and Vazquez each having multi-hit games. PBA's Rachel Hill earned the win throwing seven innings allowing two runs while striking out seven batters.
