Box Score Lakeland, Fla.- Lynn University's softball team improved to 12-11 overall and 2-2 in Sunshine State Conference play with a 4-2 win over Florida Southern on Friday night to open the SSC series. Cherise McEnery went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in and her team-leading sixth homerun of the season. Missy Montgomery earned the win in the circle for the Fighting Knights going the distance for a complete game allowing two runs on eight hits.
After a quick first two innings the Fighting Knights lit up the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Sara Vazquez led off with a triple down the left field line. Two batters later Francais Olexa drew a one-out walk and Kaci Vassallo singled to left field to move Olexa to second and score Vazquez for a 1-0 Knights lead. Cherise McEnery homered on a full count to plate three more runs for the Blue & White who led 4-0 going into the bottom of the third inning.
The Moccasins scored in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ashlyn Worcester scored when Gianni Artidiello reached on a fielding error by the Fighting Knights. FSC put together a late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring one run on an RBI single by Jordan Alexander but Montgomery would escape the jam stranding two Mocs on base.
Four Fighting Knights recorded hits in the victory while Montgomery (7-3) struck out two in seven innings of work. Brandi Jones was hit with her eighth loss of the season for FSC allowing four earned runs on five hits in six innings.
