Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lakeland, Fla. – The Lynn University softball team improved to 13-12 overall after splitting Saturday's Sunshine State Conference doubleheader with Florida Southern. A three-run homerun by Leanne Wright in game one forced extra innings, in which the Blue & White went on to twin 6-5. FSC avoided the sweep with a pair of late runs in the second game to earn its first SSC win of the season 7-6. Lynn moves to 3-3 in SSC action while the Mocs are now 13-17 overall and 1-8 in league play. Wright went 4-for-9 at the plate with eight RBI in the two game stretch and Olexa earned both a win and a loss in the circle.

The Fighting Knights led 1-0 after a RBI single by Leah Pemberton in the bottom of the first inning but Wright doubled to left field in the top of the third to tie the game 1-1. Jordan Alexander made it a 2-1 Mocs lead in the bottom half of the frame and a sacrifice fly by Pemberton scored Kylee Stearns for a 3-1 lead.

Cherise McEnery hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to make it a one-run deficit for the Fighting Knights. In the bottom of the sixth Pemberton drove in two runs on a double to left centerfield making it a 5-2 ball game in favor of the Mocs.

Lynn was down to its final out of the game in the top of the seventh when Manya Lopez drew a walk setting up Wright with runners on first and second. Wright then homered down the left field line to tie the game 5-all.

It took two extra frames but the Blue & White scored on a throwing error in the top of the ninth for a 6-5 lead. FSC threatened in the bottom of the ninth but Olexa struck out the side with runners on first and second to end the ball game.

Olexa was credited with the win going seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out two. Missy Montgomery had a no-decision after allowing three runs on five hits going two innings in the start.

Wright went 2-for-5 at the plate driving in four runs. Sara Vazquez, Kaci Vassallo, McEnery and Wright all had multi-hit games.

In game two, Florida Southern took the lead on a solo home run by Pemberton in the bottom of the second inning and an inning later she drove in Alexander for a 2-0 Mocs lead. Smart base running in the top of the fourth plated a pair of runs for the Blue & White when Wright and McEnery both scored on a throwing error by Florida Southern's shortstop. But a double by Jessica Lanci in the bottom half of the inning once again put the Moccasins ahead, 3-2.

With bases loaded and two outs Wright sent the first pitch of her at bat deep over the left field fence for a grand slam giving Lynn a 6-3 lead. FSC scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut its deficit to one. Alexander reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth tying the game 6-all but a throwing error by Amanda Casillas would plate Lanci for a 7-6 lead. The Fighting Knights were unable to even the game in the final frame falling to the Mocs but still claiming the SSC series 2-1.

Olexa (4-7) got the loss in the circle for Lynn coming on to relieve Katelyn Key with one out in the top of the sixth. Montgomery tossed three and a third innings striking out two and allowing three runs while Key was in for two innings allowing three runs, two of which were earned.

This marks the second time in three years that Lynn has taken the SSC series from Florida Southern and back-to-back series victories in Lakeland for the Blue & White.
