Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla.- In Lynn University's first home Sunshine State Conference game of the 2015 season, the Fighting Knights (13-13) fell to Florida Tech (24-9), 2-0, on Friday afternoon. The Blue and White was held to just three hits while Missy Montgomery threw seven innings striking out three but was hit with her fourth loss of the season.
Florida Tech scored one run on an RBI double by Nichole Shinsky in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. Things looked promising for Lynn in the bottom half of the frame as Sara Vazquez led off with a triple to left centerfield. The Blue & White was unable to produce runs in the inning as Vazquez was caught stealing and picked off at third and stranded a batter on first as Cherise McEnery was thrown out at second base.
The Panthers plated another run on a fielder's choice in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead that they would hold the remainder of the game. The Fighting Knights stranded a runner on base in the third, fourth and seventh but were unable to close in on FIT's ace Rachel Pence.
Vazquez, Jasmine Campos and Christina Carvatta were the only members of Lynn's squad to record hits as Pence fanned nine batters allowing just one Knight to reach base on balls through seven innings of work to earn her 13th win of the season.
Montgomery (7-4) struck out four Panthers through seven innings in the circle allowing two earned runs on six hits.
