Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla.- Lynn University's softball team was down to its final strike in the first game of a pair of games at the National Training Center on Wednesday afternoon when the Fighting Knights rallied to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Post, 7-5. Lynn then dropped a non-region game to Findlay, 10-0, in five innings. Christina Carvatta and Sara Vazquez both went 4-for-8 at the plate for the Fighting Knights while four other members of the Blue & White squad had a multi-hit day.
Lynn took a 1-0 lead against Post in the top of the third inning but the Eagles responded to tie the game 1-all in the bottom half of the frame. An infield single with bases loaded by Carvatta scored Jasmine Campos once again putting the Fighting Knights on top, 2-1.
The Blue & White plated two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to lead 4-1. Cherise McEnery doubled to center field with two outs to start off the Fighting Knights. Amanda Casillas then hit a bunt single which would advance McEnery to third but a throwing error by the pitcher would score McEnery for a 3-1 Lynn lead. Campos and Francais Olexa had back-to-back singles to load the bases setting up Vazquez singled to the shortstop which plated Casillas for the 4-1 lead.
PU added a run on one hit in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to two for a 4-2 Blue & White lead. The Eagles set the Fighting Knights down in order in the top of the sixth and took the lead in the bottom half of the frame scoring three runs on four hits and an error to lead 5-4.
A two-out single by Campos in the top of the seventh sparked the Blue & White's three-run rally which won the game for Lynn. Olexa hit an infield single which placed runners on first and second. That's when Vazquez singled through the left side with a full count advancing both runners, Campos was able to score on a throwing error by the Eagles' left fielder, tying the game at five. Carvatta doubled up the middle clearing the base runners for the game winning hit. Manya Lopez ended the game by gunning down Kayla Kresley as she tried to steal second base in the bottom of the seventh.
Olexa earned the win on the mound tossing one and two thirds innings allowing two hits while striking out one. Missy Montgomery threw five and a third innings in the no decision facing 26 batters allowing four earned runs on six hits.
Carvatta went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in the win. Vazquez and Campos also had three hits while Olexa recorded two hits and a walk. Seven Fighting Knights had hits as the team combined for a total of 14 hits with only one strikeout. Kresley was the only Eagle to have a multi-hit game as Post falls to 2-6 on the season.
In game two against Findlay, Lynn recorded six hits. The Fighting Knights had three pitchers go to the circle in the 10-0 loss.
Findlay took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning and added a pair of runs in the fourth. The bulk of the damage was done in the top of the fifth inning when the Oilers scored seven runs. Scherger hit an inside the park home run to center field off of Olexa to plate three runs.
Wright started a Lynn threat in the bottom half of the fifth inning which was followed by Kaci Vassallo reaching base on balls. McEnery was robbed of a hit lining into a double play to end the game in UF's favor.
Findlay had 13 hits with no strikeouts in the win, improving to 5-4 overall while Lynn's record stands at 9-8 heading into Sunshine State Conference play which begins Friday at Rollins.
