Softball Defeats Rollins in SSC Opener

Winter Park, Fla.- Lynn University's softball team won its 2015 Sunshine State Conference season opener, 3-2, on the road at Rollins on Friday night. The Blue and White improve to 10-8 overall and 1-0 in SSC play. Jasmine Campos went 3-for-3 at the plate while Missy Montgomery pitched a complete game allowing two runs on eight hits to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Cherise McEnery drew a one-out walk in the top of the second inning to start things off for the Fighting Knights. Amanda Casillas then launched a double to left field placing runners on second and third. Campos singled through the right side scoring McEnery to give Lynn a 1-0 lead. Campos stole second but Casillas was thrown out at home making it two outs. Francais Olexa hit an infield single which set Christina Carvatta up to drive in Campos for a 2-0 lead.

A double by Brianne Lint in the bottom of the fourth scored two runs for the Tars to tie the game. Lynn answered back in the top of the fifth win an RBI single from Kaci Vassallo which scored Carvatta, who led off the inning with a single to second base, to lead 3-2.

Campos and Olexa both had multi-hit games for the Fighting Knights while Montgomery went the distance in the circle striking out one. Niki Fogle got the loss for Rollins, which was her first of the season. She struck out eight in seven innings of work allowing three runs on nine hits.

Lynn will take on Rollins in a double header on Saturday, March 7, for the final two games of the SSC series. First pitch is slated for 1 pm at MLK Park.
