Lakeland, Fla. – Lynn University's ninth-ranked men's tennis team took care of business with an 8-1 victory over Florida Southern on Tuesday afternoon to win its sixth consecutive match. Danny Riggs earned a pair of wins in doubles and singles and Pavel Mojha overcame a tough loss in doubles to easily dispatch of his opponent in singles. The Fighting Knights improve to 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Riggs and partner Alessio Iannozzi had little trouble at the No. 2 doubles position, fending off Fabian Lundberg and Derek Bell by the score of 8-2 to put Lynn ahead 1-0. The Moccasins (4-17, 1-4 SSC) knotted the match at one following an 8-3 loss against Mojha and Mehdi Laalej but Danyang Xu and Paolo Volpicelli turned the tide by outlasting Arthur Viallaneix/Brian Slivonik for an 8-6 win at the third spot.
Mojha had a very short memory moving into singles play as he put away Viallaneix with relative ease, 6-1, 6-0, to give Lynn a 3-1 lead. Laalej followed suit with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the fourth position and it was Fernando Rivas clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 2 singles.
Riggs powered his way to knock of Lundberg for a second time, winning 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 position. Iannozzi had difficulty with Blaine Miller, outlasting him 7-5 in the opening set but recovered blister Florida Southern's fifth position 6-0 in the second set. With the game in hand, Volpicelli defeated Slivoni 8-4.
Today's match was a tune-up for the Fighting Knights rivalry meet against No. 2 Barry.
