Softball Drops Final Away Doubleheader of the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

West Palm Beach, Fla.- Lynn University's softball team dropped a pair of regional games to Palm Beach Atlantic (26-19) in regional action on Tuesday night. PBA took game one, and then blanked Lynn 8-0 in five innings in game two. The Fighting Knights move to 19-17 overall and will return home for the remainder of the season beginning Saturday, April 11, against Barry.

The Sailfish took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and their lead would hold until Kaci Vassallo drove in Leanne Wright in the top of the fourth, tying the game 1-1. Wright had led off the inning with a double off the left field fence to start things out of the Blue & White.

Palm Beach Atlantic tacked on two runs in the bottom half of the frame to lead 3-1. Stephanie Garrel's reached on a fielder's choice as Rachel Hill scored. Kayla Knight tripled down the right field line with two outs to score Wood giving the Sailfish a two-run cushion.

Lynn threatened in the top of the fifth and seventh innings but was unable to plate a run as Palm Beach Atlantic took game one.

Missy Montgomery (12-5) threw six innings allowing all three runs on six hits as she was credited with her fifth loss of the season. Sara Vazquez, Wright, Vassallo and Cherise McEnery were responsible for all four of Lynn's hits as Rachel Hill allowed just one run while striking out four Knights in seven innings of work for the Sailfish.

Lindsey Johnson hit a pair of two-run home runs in the bottom of the first and second innings in game two. The Sailfish scored seven innings through the first two innings and would hold on to that lead until a solo home run by Shelby Wood in the bottom of the fifth inning to claim the victory for Palm Beach Atlantic via mercy rule.

Francais Olexa was credited with the loss after pitching one and two third innings allowing six earned runs. Katelyn Key came on in relief allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits for the Fighting Knights.

Vassallo was the only member of the Blue & White's squad to record a hit in the second game of the double header.
