Softball Fooled by Embry-Riddle

Daytona Beach, Fla. – A pair of tight games slipped away from Lynn University's softball team in a twinbill against Embry-Riddle on Friday evening.  The Fighting Knights fell 2-1 and 4-1 to the Eagles, dropping their overall record to 12-23-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Game 1
    • Lynn grabbed the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Victoria Rios smacked a two-out RBI double down the right field line.
    • The Eagles scored the equalizer in the third with a solo home run by Kassidy Simons.
    • Embry-Riddle added the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth with a Robi Zimmerman double.
  • Game 2
    • It was the Eagles turn to take an early lead, scoring their opening run in the first inning.
    • Lynn scored their own equalizer in the third frame when ERAU committed an error on a force out at second base and Francais Olexa trotted home to make it 1-1.
    • The stalemate ended in the sixth with a sac fly from Simons and a two-run triple by Rae Heuer to put Embry-Riddle ahead 4-1.

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Francais Olexa (5-13) scattered six hits over six innings, allowing two runs with three walks and a strikeout.
  • Rios and Hannah Tauscher recorded the only hits for the Fighting Knights.
  • In addition to the home run, Simons improved to 13-2 in the circle with two hits allowed in seven innings and six strikeouts.
  • Katelyn Key (6-7) took the loss after surrendering four runs on nine hits with a walk and K apiece.  Her counterpart, Raquelli Bianco, fanned five over seven innings with four hits allowed.
  • Game two hits came from Olexa, Tauscher, Geena Capitini and Manya Lopez.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Fighting Knights are 2-13-1 this season in games decided by two runs or fewer.
  • Rios' RBI gave her 14 on the season, tying her with Olexa for second on the team.
