Buccaneers Drop Lynn Women's Soccer

Miami Shores, Fla. - Lynn University's women's soccer team battled against long-time rival Barry University but a pair of first-half goals were their undoing in a 2-0 loss on Wednesday night.  Alexa Downie stopped six shots in the defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Barry played aggressively from the onset with Downie forced to make two saves in the early-goings.
  • The Buccaneers grabbed the 1-0 advantage in the 16th minute when Sarah Wignall was able to score off a deflection from a shot by Amanda Traynor.
  • Barry then took a 2-0 lead into the locker room following a give-and-go goal by Carissa Sanchez in the 44th minute of play.
  • A save from Downie led off the second half and the Buccaneers would go on to hit the post and crossbar over the next two minutes.
  • Lynn found some space in the attack midway through the second half but was turned away by Paula Forero.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Lynn was outshot 19-5 and the Bucs held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Downie stopped six shots while her counterpart Forero made four saves.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • This is the fourth game Downie has turned away at least five shots in a match.
