Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at PBA

West Palm Beach, Fla. The Lynn University women's soccer program saw its Sunshine State Conference winning streak snapped at three games on Wednesday night, as the Fighting Knights fell 2-1 on the road to Palm Beach Atlantic in a Sunshine State Conference battle at the Rinker Athletic Campus.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • The Sailfish got on the board early, taking the first lead of the game in the sixth minute on a goal by Taylor Frizen.
  • Kayla Fisher doubled the PBA lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute with an unassisted score off a free kick just outside the box.
  • Lynn had a chance to cut into the deficit in the 70th minute, as Jamie Perriello made a run towards the net, but was cut off by a sliding keeper to kill the scoring chance.
  • Anna Shawley got the Blue and White on the board in the 82nd minute when she headed home a ball from Emily Weisberg on a set piece. The goal was the first of Shawley's career and were her first points since her freshman season.
  • Alexa Downie was credited with six saves for the Fighting Knights, while the team was credited with three defensive saves.
  • PBA outshot Lynn 25-14 in the contest, including an 11-8 edge in shots on goal.
  • Lynn won six corners to PBA's four, converting one of them into a goal.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Lynn's last win over PBA came in double overtime in 2014.
  • The Fighting Knights now sit in a tie for second place at 3-1 in SSC play with Florida Southern.

Lynn remains on the road on Saturday, as it travels to Saint Leo for a 7 p.m. tilt. The Lions currently sit at 1-4 in conference play, and just 2-5 overall.
