Softball Bearly Splits Oaks

Titusville, Fla. – The day started well for Lynn University's softball team with a pitching dominating 3-1 victory over Oakland City but ended in an error-marred 3-1 loss to Bloomfield.  Fighting Knights pitchers fanned 11 batters against the Mighty Oaks and Karolina Flores went 5-for-6 at the plate with a game-winning triple.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Game 1
    • Rachel Lightner earned her first start of the season and did not disappoint, striking out four batters in five innings, allowing one run on five hits.
    • Francais Olexa moved her record to 5-5 in the circle with three shutout innings.  The junior southpaw tied a season-high with seven Ks.
    • Flores was the main offensive centerpiece, going 3-for-4 and breaking a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning with a RBI triple.
    • Mackenzie Wyatt added the final RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
  • Game 1
    • Katelyn Key took the loss (3-2) despite allowing two runs, only one earned, on five hits.  
    • A day after no-hitting Oakland City, Kayla Sheffield surrendered one unearned run on one hit.
    • Flores scored Lynn's only run of the game after leading off the bottom of the fourth with a triple and later scoring on Victoria Rios' sac fly.
    • Rios went 1-for-2 and Olexa 1-for-3.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • This is the second start of the year Key has not issued a walk.
  • Flores extended her hitting streak to six games, one off her career-best.  She has gone 11-for-21 with one home run, two doubles, two triples and eight runs batted in.
  • Olexa's fifth victory in the circle is two off her career-high set in 2016.
