Softball Splits Double-Header with Tars

Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team overcame a 3-0 deficit to start the day to take down Rollins 5-3 in extra innings before falling on a walk-off grand slam, 6-5, in game two of the double-header.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Game 1
    • Karolina Flores went 2-for-4 from the plate, including the game-winning home run in the eighth inning, and drove in two runs.
    • Leanne Wright went back-to-back with Flores in extra innings and finished the game 1-for-4.
    • Mackenzie Wyatt and Erin Sundook also drove in runs for the Fighting Knights.
    • Chandler Middlebrooke carried Rollins' offense, going 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in the opening inning.
    • After a bumpy first, Francais Olexa (13-9) settled down to hold the Tars scoreless.  Her final line was three runs, two earned, on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
  • Game 2
    • Flores continued her hot hitting with another 2-for-4 performance and a RBI.
    • Mackenzie Wyatt also went 2-for-4 while Madison White was 2-for-3 with a RBI double.
    • Victoria Rios scored twice and drove in a run.
    • Kayla Sheffield allowed six runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings of work.  
    • Middlebrook hit her second home run of the series and Amanda Guglietta hit her first home run of the season.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Wright smacked her team-leading fifth home run of the season and 18th of her career.  She is now tied for sixth place in program history, with former teammate Cherise McEnery, for career home runs.
  • Olexa's 13th win doubled her career victory total (26) and gave her sole possession of fifth place in program history for victories.
  • Sheffield surrendered her first two home runs of the year.
