No. 3 Women's Tennis Claims NCAA South Region II Title

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the third consecutive year, Lynn University's third-ranked women's tennis team is headed back to the NCAA National Championships following a 5-0 win over seventh-ranked and third-seeded West Florida on Tuesday in the South Region II Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lynn improved its incredible doubles mark on the season to 67-2 with a pairs sweep over the Argos.
  • 11th-ranked Diana Bogolii and Grace Mpassy remained undefeated together on the year with an 8-0 rout at No. 2.
  • Martina Gledacheva and Tereza Hejlova followed up with an 8-3 triumph at No. 3.
  • At the top flight, third-ranked Rosalie Willig and Stefanie Stemmer held a 5-4 edge over 23rd-ranked Paula Coyos and Paula Lopez before closing out an 8-4 victory.
  • The Fighting Knights needed just two quick singles wins to secure the match and straight-set decisions from Willig and Gledacheva sealed the deal.
  • Willig, ranked 17th in singles, took it to Coyos at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0.
  • Gledacheva finished things up with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.
  • Bogolii (No. 4), Stemmer (No. 5) and Hejlova (No. 6) were all up a set before the match was halted.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Lynn has won a South Regional and moves onto nationals for the third straight year. 
  • Lynn is making its 19th appearance at NCAA Nationals in 21 years since leaving the NAIA.
  • The Fighting Knights also defeated the Argos in the 2015 regional final.

UP NEXT:
The Fighting Knights have punched their ticket to the NCAA Sweet 16, held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. from May 9-13. In the opening round, Lynn will match up against the University of Indianapolis, the Midwest Region I winner, on Wednesday, May 10 at 8 a.m. Lynn defeated UIndy 8-1 during the regular season in Boca Raton.
